I am a portrait painter working in traditional oils, specialising in highly detailed portraits for private clients and institutions.
My approach is grounded in careful observation, classical technique, and a respect for the long tradition of painted portraiture. Each portrait is developed through a considered process of sittings, studies, and layered oil painting, with close attention paid to likeness, character, and presence.
I work directly with each client from the initial consultation through to the completion of the painting. Commissions are often created to mark important milestones such as retirements, professional achievements, family legacies, or memorials.
As an artist predominantly painting portraiture I will often find myself painting and studying someones face for hours. I work for the most part from photos but always try to meet and ‘get to know’ a bit about that person. It might be the clothes they wear, the artefacts they collect, or even the things that they say.
We are all unique and it is this ‘presence’ that I want to evoke.
It’s not just about a likeness, it’s about an essence, a sort of recording of their persona and soul.
Where as a photo captures a moment in time - my method takes many days and hours and during my studio time I am trying to get under their skin.

All portraits are painted using archival materials and traditional oil techniques, with the intention that they endure for generations.
I accept a limited number of commissions each year to ensure every portrait receives the time and attention it deserves.
